Judging by most press coverage, the electric vehicle sales race is between Tesla and the rest of the world. Or maybe it’s between the Nissan Leaf, which set the record for U.S. sales in 2014, and the Chevy Volt, a plug-in hybrid that sold well back in the day. Actually, the dynamic has shifted in the first half of 2016. The EV sales contest is now a two-horse race, with the Tesla Model S on top and the Volt just behind. If inventory remains strong, Chevy could make it interesting all summer long.

After a brief discussion, I realized I had some more understanding to do, and was able to arrange a follow-up conversation. I first met Jaffe when he was active at Navigant Research as their main energy storage analyst, and he has since moved on to become Managing Director at Cairn Energy Research Advisors (Cairn ERA). Jaffe’s spent more than 10 years in energy storage as an analyst, consultant, entrepreneur and executive from all ends of the business. So he’s practically been watching this space since before it became relevant.
